The Club Away Day was supported by only 16 Club members
this year. We arrived at Dumfries Ice Bowl in plenty time to partake of coffee
and bacon rolls before our first round games. Our first visit to Dumfries
coincided with a curling world record attempt, a feat that they managed to
succeed in by curling for 61 hours 39 minutes and 33 seconds, raising quite a
lot of money in the process. As you can imagine there was quite a buzz about
the place with their supporters and music playing all the time.
This did not detract too much from our own competition
which was played in the usual Club Away Day spirit, more serious in the first
half of the day and less so in the afternoon. Each team played against each
other over 5 ends with some breaks for necessary refreshments with the winners
at the end of the day attaining a 9 shots up score was the rink skipped by Jim
Ramsay with Jim Cowper, Liz Anderson and Janette Lambie, runners-up were Walter
Brown, John Glidden, Ronnie Hope and Pam Ramsay, 3rd were Dave Anderson, Andrew
Lambie, Jean Lennie and Ian Neil and bringing up the rear were Bill Jacobs, Ian
Baxter, Roger Scott and Christine Hope.
We returned to Penicuik where a group of us dined in the
Navaar Hotel to complete a very enjoyable day of good curling and good fellowship.
Thanks to the Social committee of Ian Neil, Christine and
Pam and for their organisation of this event.
